Pause to Remember

Six years ago today, many of us at Mind & Media stood on the rooftop deck of our Alexandria office and watched the smoke rise from the Pentagon. Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of those who perished in New York, Pennsylvania, and our home state of Virginia.

I remember the day as if it were yesterday. I was outside our Mind & Media offices when someone said a plane struck one of the towers. We figured it was a freak accident. Then someone said a plane struck the other tower. We tuned in to CNN.

Then we heard a loud bang and our building shook. That was truly scary. We went to the roof of our building and saw smoke filling the air. We are only a few miles from the Pentagon, but we had no idea what was hit. Then the radio/tv started reporting that other parts of DC were hit. These proved to be untrue later, but you can imagine how afraid we were. We couldn’t leave, because the roads were jammed. Then, Aldo, our owner pulled us together and just said that the best we could do was continue on and stay together. We did get through that day.

Now 6 years later, it is time to remember again and put in our hearts those that lost their lives on this day.
