With apologies to Mr. Springsteen, I’m wondering just how hard cable networks are hurting for programming. Witness ESPN’s forthcoming coverage of (yep) the USA Rock Paper Scissors Championship.

Also however, check out their first original dramatic “mini” series. The Bronx is Burning premieres tonight (July 9) at 10pm on ESPN and from the initial reviews, it should be a real treat.

What’s insane is that ESPN probably got to carry the rock/paper/scissors championship for free this year…but next year, the handletes will demand higher purses and therefore, ESPN will get locked into a license negotiation with rock/paper/scissors governing body!

What ever happened to them running re-runs of the World’s Strongest Man competitions from the 70s and early 80s?
