There were amazing men who risked their lives in the Civil War and any other war for that matter. I am doing a report at FMS about soldiers during the Battle of Gettysburg. Without the men at that battle, this world would not be as it is today. We should feel proud as a country for having men back then and now. We only get one life .. and those soldiers and willing to possibly give it up for us.

Thoughtful post, Jay. Even while this country is at war, so many folks identify Memorial Day as the cap to a 3-day weekend or the start of pool season. Politics, and opinions on the current state of this country, are not on my mind during Memorial Day, but my father is. I'm thankful he made it home from Vietnam (and made me), and I'm saddened that he lost so many classmates over there. I can't even fathom the sacrifice.
