Big Players Pony Up at Internet TV Table

Posted in New Media, Traditional Media by Jay Ferrari on May 14th, 2007

On the heels of Cynthia’s recent post: If you’re looking for proof that Internet TV is gaining major momentum, read up on Joost getting a $45 million boost from media titans including CBS, Viacom, Turner Broadcasting, Sony, National Geographic, and Warner Bros.

Instead of throwing up lawsuits to block emerging technology (which never works), the old guard is buying in to the new game. Interesting.

Joost is only the beginning. Where Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis go, others follow! It will be interesting to see how long it takes them to turn the multi channel industry on its head as they did with Telecom via Skype and the recording industry via Kazaa. Sure, someone will sue them but at the end of the road they will have forced some level of progression into an otherwise stagnating industry…and they will have done so on a global scale…again!

And yes, I do wish I was them!
